The Mummy’s-having series is built around supporting parents to help their children make sense of key events in their lives that significantly affect their parents. The first book in the series is ‘Mummy’s having a C-section’ which explores the experience of a child who has heard everyone talk about his mother’s c-section, but doesn’t quite understand what that means once she arrives home with the new baby.
This children’s book is written from the perspective of a child who knows his mother will be having a c-section to bring the new baby home. What he doesn’t expect is that his mother will be a bit different for some time after the operation. He visits the doctor who teaches him the word recovery and explains this in the context of his mum’s c-section. The little boy understands that his mum will be better soon and is looking forward to when his mum, dad and new baby will be able to jump around and play together in the park.
Dr. Hiba Khan is a doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and an active advocate for improving patient education and support in women’s health. She wrote this book as she wanted to help siblings to understand the context around their mum coming home from a c-section.
“I often talk to pregnant women with toddlers at home who find it difficult to understand why their mum may be different for a while after a c-section. This book teaches the concept of ‘recovery’ from the perspective of a young child whose mother comes home after having a c-section at the hospital.”

Absolutely heartwarming! This book made coming home after c-section much easier for the family and made explaining to my son both easy and meaningful.
